Philippe Starck
![]() |
Phillipe Starck, world famous designer and architect, is perhaps as acclaimed today as the Bauhaus designers were in the first half of the 20th Century. There are other parallels with the Bauhaus designers: Like them, Starck is an influential designer who excels in multiple disciplines, equally acclaimed as an industrial designer and as an architect. Like the illustrious Bauhaus designers, Starck is a prolific architect and interior designer, just as comfortable working in Japan or the US as Europe. An award winning furniture and product designer, his work is renowned for its futuristic lines, and engaging simplicity. In the 80’s and 90’s his designs were so much a part of popular culture they became synonymous with contemporary fashion. In the 21st century his philosophy has evolved to emphasize honesty and integrity of both form and construction. His professional philosophy dictates that his designs should not be 'throw away artifacts', only surviving for as long as they remain in fashion, but rather that they should have stylistic longevity and physical durability. |
